I am mummy, hear me roar

A collection of stuff I find looking for things to educate and entertain my 2 yr old

Boy’s Hairstyles

Well who’d of thought trying to find some ideas for a haircut for your son would be so difficult.

I searched for hours using all sorts keywords and phrases to try to find some cool ideas for my son.  Maybe you have noticed from the site’s header that he has longish hair.  Well that photo was taken at about 1 1/2 years old.  Now at 2 his hair is past his shoulders and well on it’s way to freedom.  And every single person who meets him thinks he is a girl, even those who know he’s a boy regularly comment on how much he looks like a girl.  It’s getting a bit much!

‘Cut his hair’ I hear you say…and if only it was that simple.  But strangely enough he looks more like a girl with short hair.  Especially as it’s very fine and whispy, the short whisps over his face really really make him look girly.

Anyway off I went in search of hairstyle that we can get for him so he will look a bit more masculine.  But as I said it was pretty impossible.  So I decided that if I wanted it I was going to have to make it myself.  Not to mention that I found quite a few comments out there from other mums looking for something other than ‘short back and sides’ or a ‘crew cut’ for their sons and were left feeling as frustrated as I was.

So Boy’s Hairstyles was born.  At the moment it is very much a work in progress and I am currently just ripping photos from anywhere, which is of course very bad cyberspace manners.  But honestly I don’t know what else to do.  We even took him to a so called ‘kids salon’ and they didn’t even have a book of boys cuts for us to look at.  Their advice ‘cut it short’.  so I went down the road to a real salon and their advice was (IMHO) so much worse.  They advised short on the top and keep it long at the back…hmmm  I’m sure that translates to a mullet!  But I shouldn’t be too surprised they are totally into 80′s no-no fashions here.  Leg warmers, acid wash jeans, leather pants, fluro colours – all popular here.

Anyway if you are looking for a haircut for your boy, or better yet your son has a nice cut please come on over and/or send me a picture!.  Thanks.
